Daily Prompt: Teachable Moment

“You have to learn a new skill. Do you prefer to read about it, watch someone else do it, hear someone describe it, or try it yourself?” –The Daily Post

Learning how to speak Mandarin Chinese is something that I have been trying to do over the course of the past four years now. I have bought two or three books so that I could try to read about it. In all honesty, they haven’t helped much. I think one or two of them even came with CDs that you are supposed to listen to as you go through the book and to be perfectly honest, it’s too inconvenient. If I am going to use a book, I don’t want to have to go at the pace of the CD. I would much rather watch someone else speak it and then try doing it myself. I have audio lessons on my iPhone and I took a Chinese class for the past three years and the two of those things were EXTREMELY helpful! Nothing beats listening to how something should be said and then trying to say it yourself.

Hey! Speaking of learning Chinese…

恭喜发财!/ 新年快乐!

(gong xi fa cai! xin nian kuai le!) HAPPY CHINESE NEW YEARRRRR!

(It’s now the year of the snake!)
