I couldn’t even begin to tell you how many times I’ve gone to a Bubble Tea shop or a Frozen Yogurt Place and ordered something taro-flavored.
Taro is one of my favorite flavors and admittedly, I’ve never had the slightest clue as to what it actually looks like. All I knew was that it’s purple and very much resembles ube, another unusual ice cream flavor I treasure.
This was the extent of my knowledge: Ube is a purple yam. Taro is a potato-ish root.
And they aren’t the same, though they are both purple.
Well at long last, I HAVE FOUND TARO!
I spotted it while looking for papaya at a local farmers’ market.
Here’s a close-up of the mysterious taro root.
Yummm, what a lovely.. root. Doesn’t it look like it would make a delicious ice cream flavor? 😉
I wish I could go back in time and thank the man who stared at one of these things and said, “I will make this ice cream.”
