of Madrid&#8217;s most famous skyscrapers and I managed to explore the rooftop after it reopened for the first time in over 12 years!<\/p>\n\n\n<div class=\"wp-block-image\">\n<figure href=\"https:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Edificio_Espa\u00f1a\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">the Spanish capital&#8217;s tallest building<\/a><\/strong> standing at 384 feet tall.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Today, it is the 8th tallest building in Madrid and remains an iconic part of the city&#8217;s skyline.<\/p>\n\n\n<div class=\"wp-block-image\">\n<figure class=\"aligncenter building has had a ROUGH history. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>In 2006, <strong><a href=\"https:\/\/www.actualidadviajes.com\/en\/el-futuro-del-edificio-espana-plaza-espana-madrid\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">Edificio Espa\u00f1a was abandoned<\/a><\/strong> after having been a luxury hotel, shopping center, and office space during its heyday.<\/p>\n\n\n<div Then it wasn&#8217;t until July of 2014 that <strong><a href=\"https:\/\/english.elpais.com\/elpais\/2014\/05\/26\/inenglish\/1401095185_579244.html\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">Edificio Espa\u00f1a was sold to Dalian Wanda Group<\/a><\/strong> for 265 million euros.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>However, only two years later, the <strong><a href=\"https:\/\/english.elpais.com\/elpais\/2016\/01\/15\/inenglish\/1452871544_707607.html\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">Chinese conglomerate backed down from its own plans<\/a><\/strong> leaving the iconic building, once again, closed and <strong><a href=\"https:\/\/www.khl.com\/news\/the-end-for-madrid-s-edificio-espana\/1020887.article\">inaccessible to the public<\/a><\/strong>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<div class=\"wp-block-group\"><div class=\"wp-block-group__inner-container is-layout-flow wp-block-group-is-layout-flow\">\n<p class=\"has-text-align-center Hotels &amp; Resorts took it over!<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The <strong><a href=\"https:\/\/www.riu.com\/en\/hotel\/spain\/madrid\/hotel-riu-plaza-espana\/\">Hotel Riu Plaza Espa\u00f1a<\/a><\/strong> celebrated its grand opening in August of 2019 the same week <a href=\"https:\/\/www.therockysafari.com\/2023\/08\/19\/spain-2-day-travel-guide-madrid\/\"><strong>my family was visiting me in Madrid<\/strong><\/a>!<\/p>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image size-full\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" width=\"750\" height=\"1000\" <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The resurrection of a 27-story skyscraper built in 1953 that closed for 12 whole years only added to the <strong><a href=\"https:\/\/www.riu.com\/blog\/en\/riu-plaza-espana-news-2021\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">historic significance of this grand reopening<\/a><\/strong>!<\/p>\n\n\n<div the grand opening, having priority access to go to the rooftop was amazing. elevators where a simple tap of our room key illuminated the option to visit Floor 27.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>There is normally a 10 euro entrance fee in the evening, but it is waived for hotel seasonal outdoor pool is also up on the rooftop!<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>It looked so inviting and I&#8217;m sure it must be incredible to swim there in Madrid&#8217;s peak summer season. Here is a photograph I took that shows our room&#8217;s view as well as a burst of lightning from the storm that took place that evening.<\/p>\n\n\n<div class=\"wp-block-image\">\n<figure class=\"wp-block-heading\"><strong>THE HOTEL ROOM<\/strong><\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p>Although Edificio Espa\u00f1a&#8217;s historic building features 20th-century Spanish architecture built in the Neo-Baroque This ultimately happened in 2021.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>From what I have heard in 2023, Madrilenians seem to be happy with the changes!<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>You&#8217;ll love the location.
