I <em>needed<\/em> to try the bread from some local bakery once I made it all the way to Bosnia and Herzegovina.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>I had never heard people mention anything about their bread before, but I really didn&#8217;t know a whole lot about the country in general&#8230;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>That was one of the main reasons I wanted to go to Bosnia. No more than a 3-minute walk from my flat.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Many days after work, I&#8217;d go for stroll and visit the bakery on my way back home. One large loaf of delicious white bread was only 0.50 Bosnian Marka. After converting that to US currency, a single loaf of bread was basically 25 cents.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Life in Bosnia in general was very affordable for a visiting American. That freshly pressed extra virgin olive oil paired with soft, freshly baked Bosnian bread tasted like absolute bliss.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>I don&#8217;t normally eat a lot of bread, but the freshness and softness was unrivaled from anything I&#8217;d ever eaten from any other bakery. Enjoying some with dinner became a real treat since I was desperately seeking comfort in a country where I started off <strong><a href=\"https:\/\/www.therockysafari.com\/2022\/03\/31\/agoraphobia-in-sarajevo\/\">feeling very unsettled<\/a><\/strong>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>Should you happen to discover that you also enjoy Bosnian bread, then you absolutely must try Sarajevski \u0106evapi.<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image size-large\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" width=\"768\" height=\"1024\" src=\"https:\/\/www.therockysafari.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2022\/04\/sarajevo-cevapi-food-09-768x1024.jpg\" alt=\"Bosnian Cevapi\" class=\"wp-image-56482\" srcset=\"\/cdn-cgi\/image\/width=768,height=1024,fit=crop,quality=80,format=auto,onerror=redirect,metadata=none\/wp-content\/uploads\/2022\/04\/sarajevo-cevapi-food-09.jpg 768w, \/cdn-cgi\/image\/width=225,height=300,fit=crop,quality=80,format=auto,onerror=redirect,metadata=none\/wp-content\/uploads\/2022\/04\/sarajevo-cevapi-food-09.jpg 225w, \/cdn-cgi\/image\/width=218,height=290,fit=crop,quality=80,format=auto,onerror=redirect,metadata=none\/wp-content\/uploads\/2022\/04\/sarajevo-cevapi-food-09.jpg 218w, \/cdn-cgi\/image\/width=1125,height=1500,fit=crop,quality=80,format=auto,onerror=redirect,metadata=none\/wp-content\/uploads\/2022\/04\/sarajevo-cevapi-food-09.jpg 1125w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 768px) 100vw, 768px\" \/><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<p>In Bosnia, there&#8217;s this very famous dish called \u0106evapi.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>This dish typically combines small, skinless, minced meat sausage-shaped rolls and is served with pita bread (also wonderful) called somun, some diced onions, and possibly kajmak: a dairy product that is similar to fermented cheese.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>There are several towns in Bosnia and Herzegovina that are very famous for their \u0107evapi recipes. Only the most experienced chefs can prepare extraordinary \u0107evapi.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>If you&#8217;re feeling a bit daring and would like to recreate the meal at home, <a href=\"https:\/\/www.chasingthedonkey.com\/how-to-make-sarajevski-cevapi-recipe\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\"><strong>there&#8217;s a really good \u0107evapi recipe that you can find here<\/strong><\/a>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>During the month I spent traveling around Sarajevo, Bosnia and Herzegovina, I was fortunate enough to be able to order \u0107evapi from many local restaurants. I had gone to some of the really popular, famous restaurants as well as some lesser-known ones on the outskirts of the city.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>I really enjoyed the \u0107evapi I ordered from Hod\u017ei\u0107 2 and \u0106evabd\u017einica \u017deljo.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Since Bosnian breads exist in a league of their own, somun pita bread makes \u0107evapi ten times more enjoyable.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>While traveling in Bosnia, I also got to try out some other popular dishes.
