<\/p>\nBack in 2011, I bought my first set\u00a0of contact lenses and upgraded from Nike glasses to\u00a0a new pair of RayBans. For whatever reason, I allowed my family to talk me into buying a pair of glasses I didn’t totally love. Maybe it was the RayBan brand name that persuaded me. Maybe young-me simply couldn’t be bothered with finding\u00a0nicer\u00a0frames. Whatever the reason, all I know is I went home that evening\u00a0with glasses\u00a0that I thought were just OK.<\/p>\n

I wore my RayBans\u00a0that night and got\u00a0a pretty bad\u00a0headache from my\u00a0new\u00a0prescription; it felt way too strong for my eyes. I definitely felt my optometrist had\u00a0rushed my\u00a0eye exam. I was convinced he misjudged the\u00a0results\u00a0and gave me a prescription too strong for\u00a0my eyes. My contacts, however, felt\u00a0just right.<\/p>\n
Don’t ask me why but I never went back to correct my glasses. Instead, I chose to deal with them and redirected my attention to practicing\u00a0putting on contacts. I have worn contact lenses every single day since then. For the last four years or more, I’ve followed the same routine each morning: wake up, get dressed, put on contacts, and so on. It was\u00a0never any trouble. My contacts\u00a0are comfortable. Invisible. Effective.<\/p>\n
Why wear my over-powered ugly glasses when I could avoid them\u00a0altogether?<\/p>\n
Since I never wore my new\u00a0RayBans, I ended up lending them to a significant other from my past who shared the same prescription as me. When we stopped talking about a\u00a0year ago, we cut all ties and I never saw my glasses\u00a0again. Now I\u00a0really<\/strong> didn’t have a choice in the matter.<\/p>\n “Contacts it is,” I told myself.<\/p>\n Almost one year later, here I am. Still without glasses and finally starting to wish I had them. I wanted\u00a0to give my eyes a break and decided to transfer the strain from there to my wallet instead. I began shopping for new designer glasses: my quest for frames I could\u00a0look forward<\/em> to wearing.<\/p>\n At a nearby retailer, I found\u00a0Versace frames that I thought\u00a0fit\u00a0my face pretty well. Prior to the\u00a0shopping spree, I was convinced there were no eyeglasses out there that suited my face.\u00a0I had conditioned myself from years of not liking\u00a0my glasses to believe frames never\u00a0looked good on me.\u00a0Plus, it helped me cope\u00a0with the fact that I didn’t even have glasses\u00a0for some time.<\/p>\n I opted for ordinary lenses\u00a0at first but\u00a0went back the next day to upgrade to the anti-reflective lenses. I didn’t want to spend the extra cash upfront\u00a0but after realizing how happy\u00a0I was\u00a0with\u00a0them, I decided I’d upgrade so I’d have no excuse not to wear them.<\/p>\n Wearing glasses is interesting. They\u00a0directly <\/strong>impact the way you perceive the world. Everyday life feels like some TV show being watched through big frames. I think the science behind the light and optics of prescription glasses\u00a0is incredible. Your vision is changed so dramatically by a small piece of bent glass. And in terms of psychology, I’m pretty sure people perceive people with glasses differently. Unlike my past frames, my\u00a0new glasses\u00a0are much bigger. I didn’t get\u00a0the standard\u00a0rectangular style\u00a0that I’ve had in the past. Instead, I opted\u00a0for more of a soft wayfarer style. I liked these particular frames because they’re two-toned. The top is solid black and the bottom is wooden brown. I wanted at least some brown on them to match\u00a0my hair color. The sides are branded with the\u00a0Versace pattern\u00a0in silver. I like everything about them.<\/p>\n
