The Struggle of Having Sunday Exams at Rutgers

Last Updated on September 29, 2023

I flew to Indiana on Thursday to attend a Governors Training Conference.

While I was there, I got to learn more about my position while discussing general expectations and bonding with other governors from around the world.

It was slightly stressful for me because as happy as I was to be there, it meant I had to miss seven classes back at Rutgers. Catching up on all that work this week is going to be so fun. I miss my senior year of high school when I had Wednesdays and Fridays off. Having classes all day every day in college makes scheduling time for anything so difficult.

To add to the stress, Sunday was my second major Bio 2 exam. I was hoping to fly back to New Jersey Saturday night so I could rest and do some last-minute studying before my exam on Sunday but there were no flights Saturday night so I had to wait until the following morning to go home.

I ended up booking a flight home that would give me a 2-hour window before my exam. If my flight was delayed for some reason, it meant I could possibly miss my exam. I e-mailed the Bio department about my situation but they said they couldn’t do anything and that I was expected to attend my exam at the scheduled time as stated in the syllabus.

Haha, terrific! So essentially, if my flight got delayed, I’d pretty much fail Gen Bio 2. Unable to do anything about my situation, I prayed that everything would be running on time. Fortunately for me, everything DID run on schedule and I made it to my Sunday exam without a problem.

I didn’t have time to study between Thursday through Sunday so I felt less prepared for the exam than I would have liked. Oh well. What’s done is done. I laughed when I read an e-mail from the Bio department that said, “Students, please remember to get a full 8 hours of uninterrupted sleep and to eat breakfast before the exam on Sunday.”

Eight hours..? I don’t know if I even got one. By the time I got to go to bed Saturday night, it was 3 AM. One of my roommates had to leave for the airport at 3:30 AM so when his alarm went off, I woke back up. My other roommate had to leave at 4:30 AM so when his alarm went off, I woke up. The next thing I knew, it was 5:30 AM and it was MY turn to leave for the airport! I traveled home during the next few hours and went straight to Rutgers for my Sunday exam.

How I managed to take that exam without falling asleep beats me…

Eevee is my favorite Pokemon. 😀 Sounds like the conference was a great experience, and I hope you find some time to catch up on sleep despite your busy schedule. :0
