Last Minute Unexpected Surgery Is Always Fun

Last Updated on August 25, 2023

Oh boy… my summer vacation just got even crazier. I wasn’t really expecting this but I found out Thursday evening that I’m in need of surgery so I’ll be getting operated on in the hospital this Friday. :/

I’ve always had a mild fear of anesthesia. I think the fear stems from when I first learned about laughing gas and saw videos of people babbling away while they were all loopy. The thought of being unaware of what I’m saying freaks me out! I used to wonder if I might accidentally say something to my mom and dad that could get me in trouble like a simple, “oh he’s cute.”

Luckily, I don’t have to worry about that anymore.

But being unconscious is still scary! I’ll be out of commission for few days post-surgery but I’ll still do my best to blog once I’m awake and feeling a little better. (MUST. NOT. MESS. UP. NEW. YEARS. RESOLUTION. #postaday)

I should be okay and the surgery shouldn’t be too bad. I hope. There is a risk for complications but I’m not letting myself think about it. The surgery has high success rates and the doctor I have is supposed to be phenomenal. I’m a huge advocate of mind over matter so I do believe that a positive attitude can do wonders in situations like these.

    1. Oh, I probably should have specified but I’m actually not getting laughing gas – I only wanted to share the fact that it scares me. I’m getting general anesthesia that’ll almost instantly knock me out cold. No time for babbling! 🙂 Thank you, Eric! I appreciate it.

  1. Good luck!

As an aside, surgery for me is always a real big deal because I have sleep apnea, and when they put me under, I often stop breathing – so they have to make sure I’m getting enough oxygen. (I found all this out when I was getting my wisdom teeth removed.) So that alone has always freaked me out about going under the knife!

Don’t worry too much about your posting schedule – recovery is more important. 🙂

  2. Don’t know what exactly they are doing to you but just something to give you a heads up on, if they are doing a local block on something you may not be able to move that limb when you wake up and it can be VERY disconcerting. I had hand surgery in college and when I came to (post surgery) I kept trying to tell my hand to move and it couldn’t. Again don’t know what they are doing but the two surgeries I’ve had were not as scary as I thought they would be. The worst part for me was waiting in the hospital bed to go in. Best of luck, heal fast, all will be well.
