Daily Prompt: I Can’t Stay Mad at You

“Do you hold grudges or do you believe in forgive and forget?” -The Daily Post

This is pretty much the one exception to my life where I don’t feel like a textbook INFJ. While INFJs are notorious for the “INFJ door slam,” I believe I am more the type to forgive and forget.

If you aren’t familiar with the term, INFJ door slam is the tendency for INFJs to get so fed up with a person that they decide to shut that person out of their life completely. It may seem sudden and leave the other person feeling hurt and confused.

I think it’s important for other types to understand that even if it’s not apparent, INFJs think about these decisions A LOT and for a LONG time and so if the decision is made to door slam someone, it’s probably pretty serious.

There are only one or two people who have ever pushed me to the point of true door-slam and both cases required years and years (and I mean years) of repetitive reasons to finally push me to that point. With those special cases, yes, the INFJ door slam is very much a real thing.

But 99.9999999% of the people I interact with will almost always be given a second chance as long as they didn’t do something so terrible that I couldn’t possibly forgive them for it. And that would have to be something pretty bad.

oh, don’t believe in a second chance. In my eyes, if people really think so, they are either ignorant, naive, or both. I’ve “slammed the door” a few times, and hurt people’s feelings by that. However, it doesn’t mean I can’t be kind and treat them with respect when we see each other (usually they aren’t able too look me in my eyes, because they know what they’ve done and that it meant some hard consequences), I just don’t want them in my life. I’ve also forgiven people a few times (like, once or twice), even though they didn’t deserve it. I forgive them because it is a better option than shutting them out of my life.

Usually I don’t have to shut people out, or give them a second chance. I am really, really picky when I’m making friends, and I won’t call them my friends unless I know I can trust them to not hurt me any ways.
