Daily Prompt: Teen Age Idol

“Who did you idolize as a teenager? Did you go crazy for the Beatles? Ga-ga over Duran Duran? In love with Justin Bieber? Did you think Elvis was the livin’ end?” -The Daily Post

I sometimes have a difficult time understanding why people idolize celebrities when the true idols, in my opinion, are the people around us. As a teenager, I idolized my teachers, friends, and family members. Essentially, people I actually know and have gotten to know over long periods of time.

My sister admires famous bands and actors/actresses and I have a hard time relating to that. Movies are edited A LOT and those people are playing roles so it’s not like you’re seeing their true selves being portrayed on the big screen. Not to mention, sometimes the people singing the songs people obsess over aren’t even the ones who wrote the song, to begin with. And yes, sometimes they are. But not everyone checks that type of thing.

I don’t know, I guess I try not to get caught up in the hype surrounding the media – I don’t want them controlling the way I think! 😉 The bottom line: I’ve always admired people who I’ve come to see true passion and dedication in.
