“Ever been dumped by a boyfriend or girlfriend? Was it a total surprise, or something you saw coming? Tell us your best worst breakup story. Never been the dumpee, always the dumper? Relate the story of a friend who got unceremoniously kicked to the curb. Change the names to protect the innocent if you must.” -The Daily Post
With both of the guys I have dated, I was the one who had to do the dumping, and let me just say, IT’S NO BETTER THAN BEING DUMPED. I don’t think either end is easy. I know people say being dumped sucks but in my case, doing the dumping has been quite a sickening process as well.
I remember with both guys, I spent weeks on top of weeks practically losing my mind as I tried to think of ways to express my lack of interest without hurting them. It’s so hard to end any sort of romantic connection once you have invested some time into another person… but why pursue them if things aren’t going as you had hoped?
With my first boyfriend, I was so indirect about the breakup that it took literally FOREVER for him to finally get the point. In fact, sometimes I wonder if he still hasn’t gotten the idea.
With the next guy, I tried being so direct that I was only hurt when he refused to be direct back with me.
Relationships can be so stressful…
I am a gay man. About ten years ago, I was in a relationship with a man on the DL (down-low: in a relationship with a woman while he was secretly and intimately having one with me at the same time). She followed him to my apartment and broke into my bedroom while we were busy. He broke it off with me while she ended it with him. He had second thoughts and tried to reconnect with me about six months later.
Wow, that’s a tough situation! Must have been hard on everyone involved 🙁
