In my birdwatching class, we were walking through the woods looking for birds that we could try to identify. While everyone’s heads were turned up towards the clouds, I decided to look down and I saw the most FREAKY LOOKING BUG I HAVE EVER SEEN ON THE BUSH IN FRONT OF ME. It seriously looked like some sort of GIANT ALIEN CREATURE. My professor told me that not only was it a Praying Mantis (I would have never guessed they are THAT HUGE) but it was TWO praying mantises. They were done mating.
How did he know? (Besides the fact that they were on one another) Well, easy: The Professor said the male praying mantis was assuming the “Death Position.”
WHAT.
So apparently, after mating, it is not uncommon for the male to assume a death position in preparation for the female praying mantis to bite off his head and KILL HIM.
HOLY GOD… LIKE THEY JUST SHARED SUCH A SPECIAL MOMENT TOGETHER AND THE NEXT THING SHE DOES IS MURDER HIM? HOW SAD!
Nature can be so cruel sometimes.
Haha yeah, I’d say! When you think about it, gay praying mantises are quite lucky – no ones going to murder them! 😉
Is there such a thing as a gay praying mantis,
Lol I don’t know, probably!
