Why I Like Liking Guys

While talking to one of my gay friends, he mentioned something that sparked my interest.

He looked at me and asked, “Do you know why I like being gay?”

I said, “No, why?”

He answered, “Because I get to fall in love with someone real. If a man is handsome, chances are he’s actually handsome. If a woman is beautiful, she might actually be beautiful, but there’s also a good chance she’s covered with makeup and cosmetics.”

The words he said spun around in my head for days. I know his words are full of generalizations but come on, if you think about it, there’s actually some truth to it!

I’ll openly admit that I’m a bit more feminine compared to the average guy but I would never wear makeup simply because I don’t think it’s necessary. I don’t think women should have to wear it either. Meanwhile my thirteen year old sister is coating up her skin with layers each morning before going to middle school. It upsets me! (And YES, there are women who DON’T wear makeup and men who DO but we’re simply referring to the overall majority).

I tell my sister day after day that she has great skin and looks beautiful without any makeup (you’d think she would stop and say thank you, right?) but no, she proceeds to explain how I’m just a guy so I don’t know anything about beauty and how she would be mocked endlessly if she went to school without it. Plus, she genuinely thinks she wouldn’t look as good without it.

This idea put an interesting spin on how I look at other guys. I like being gay.
