Fishing. My uncle just posted a picture of himself on vacation in Maine out on a boat with a captured fish in one hand and a fishing rod in the other. I’ve gone fishing maybe a total of five or six times in my life and man, it’s fun! I never put much thought into it actually. I viewed it more as an opportunity to go out, have fun, and bond with my family. Plus, it meant we would have a nice dinner the following day.
Well, after seeing the photo, it inspired me to turn to Google and to research the sport of fishing. I thought about it a bit and isn’t catching a fish and then letting it go just as cruel and catching a fish and then killing it? I almost think killing it would be the LESS cruel option! What fish wants to be tricked into biting a hook, get injured, be forcefully pulled out from its home, grabbed by the hands of some foreign creature, only to then have a hook ribbed out of it’s insides, and then dropped back into the salty water..?
Don’t tell me fish don’t feel pain. Maybe they don’t have nerves in their mouths or whatever. Maybe they don’t feel pain the same way humans feel pain. All I know is that they definitely have to feel fear which is just as bad. There is no way they ‘enjoy’ being caught…
I’ve decided today that I’m never going to go fishing for fun ever again.
